Hi Rick.
Happy Holidays! I hope your Christmas and New Years were filled with fun and adventure.
I’m writing to thank you for facilitating a retirement planning workshop offered by my employer for those over 50. At the time, being in my early 60s, I was seriously asking myself when do I retire?
Lucky enough, I have my health, not like some of my workmates. Over the years my financial advisor helped me build a portfolio, not a fortunate, but one which will serve me well. However, my advisor and I never talked about the non-financial aspects of retirement. When I tried to raise non-financial topics, such as a possible shrinking social network, my advisor turned the conversation to pension plans, RRSPs and estate plans.
It was only when I attended your workshop that the non-financial side of retirement was openly addressed. I learned about how to build a balanced leisure lifestyle, how to use legacy as my guide when constructing my plan, importance of a health and wellbeing strategy, and much more. I have the workbook you provided participants and I regularly review my workbook answers, sometimes making additions and deletions. I remember the Honeymoon case the group discussed and how Marg could address her dilemma.
As a result of the workshop, I have a better understanding that retirement is not just about money, it’s about quality of life, leisure time and maintaining or improving one’s health, It’s also about enjoying relationships with my spouse, family and friends. Also, finding purpose, a reason for getting out of bed in the morning.
I’ve built my retirement plan and actions to make it happen. I’m confident I will be successful and I’m looking forward to helping others find the right path, as you did for me.
Thanks for your wise words, examples and making the experience thoroughly enjoyable!
Sincerely,
Al
